la reina que me cuida, la reina que me hace sentir especial, la reina que me guía, la reina que me enseña
quien soy. Reina a Reina is a search for symbols in my family home in Upper Austria. The project and the
symbols found are a reference to home and memories with different meanings. The connection to home
stretches from Upper Austria to Nayarit, Mexico.
Cecilia (Mama) was born in Santiago Ixcuintla in 1974 and crowned ‘la reina de la Feria Nacional de
primavera Santiago Ixcuintla’ there in 1991. I combine this memory from her youth with memories from my
childhood. I focus on piñatas and the act of smashing them. This allows old parts to be rearranged and
redefined – symbols, traditions, perspectives and relationships. A new meaning of the queen is created.
